    K98k - BNZ. Rune

    Hello,
I'm interested in this K98k BNZ.rune. I know they are considered quite rare. Unfortunatly I've also know of fake rune K98k's from the 1970's. Is this a good genuine one ? What do they usually sell for ? Is it worth 550€ ? It's converted to only fire blanks, which doesn't matter much to me since I only collect.
    Thanks for your opinion.

I am no expert in SS marked 98Ks, but i think that the aging of the rune stamp
does not match the rest of the rifle. You can see the blank steel ...

But that is just my opinion .. lets see what the experts think

Not sure about the rune, but the rifle doesn't seem to be matching numbers? Also the sight hood is missing. I can't remember when they started using that type of front barrel band? 1943 or 1944?

I'm curious to see people's comments in this thread.

        Dear

If this rifle is genuine (and I personally do not doubt it is a BNZ) then if the floorplate serial number matches the receiver it has a higher serial number than any observed in BBOTW.

I can only compare this to Laws' book and it is acknowledged that the book has faults but the runes seems slightly thin. Again its only an observation. Maybe it would be a good idea to ask somebody here that actually owns a BNZ single rune for pics. The barrels markings certainlt match those in BBOTW but as to all parts being the original to that gun...needs further investigation and assistance from members.

Surely Bill Grist or Bodes have a few single rune BNZ's for comparison !

        Regrads Craig.

I absolutely agree that the rune does not seem to show the same wear and patina. Notice how the pitting and wear on the BNZ and the 43 start off of the stamps and continue into them. That doesn't happen with the rune.

          I would stay away.....

            Hi Roc,

The single rune BNZ rifles should not have a waffenamt on top of the receiver in front of the BNZ marking. That was only on Heer inspected rifles. All the correct single rune examples I have seen do not have a waffenamt in that location.

            Regards, Leon

Thanks very much for your opinion; I will stay away from this one. Really great to have such knowledgeable people in here, I really thought this was a true bnz rune. Again, thanks for sharing your knowledge.<O></O>

WoW thats absolutly correct Leon ... i was scanning my books and really, the WaA stamp is not present on these bnz with single runes. I did not see this tiny little but very important detail.
