      mp40 numbers

I have an MP40 with matching numbers. On the barrel protector and nut I have a three numbers that are not the serial number which I have read are the steel sample number or lot number. That number is 758 on both.

But on the front sight post on the side it has 752. What is that number for? Is it a different steel sample number? Thank you.

The numbers on the barrel nut and elsewhere are digits of the serial number, not designation codes of steel used in production. Not sure where you acquired that bit of lore. Having handles dozens of MP40s in the course of running my MG repair business, I have never seen any factory number such as you note that are not serial number related.
Where did you find the info that the numbers were steel codes?

He found this information on my website probably. The "steel codes" are not on the barrel nut or on the barrel protector as Baixeras writes but on the bottom side of the barrel. Usually this is covered by the barrel protector. Many different stampings, numbers and signs can be found at this location. For example:

          Stg
          2636B
          2480B
          AC Stg

Just to be clear this is NOT the number on the side of the barrel. This is indeed the serial number and suffix in Sutterlin Alphabet (apart from Erma MP40's)

          Kind regards,

          Alex

Thank you for clearing this up. My serial number is 3753. The front sight post has 752, I have been told that that is probably a mistake. That the guy messed up and put a 2 instead of a three. It might have been someone from this forum but from their web site.

I know that they would put three numbers instead of the whole serial number on certain parts of the gun. My questions is, did they also just put two numbers?

My barrel nut has this number on it 75 8 just like that.

75 is part of my serial number which is why I ask. I don't know what to think of the 8.

Yes, often owners wonder what the number is on the barrel that does not match the serial number. This is accurate…….

Hi, I have question for you. I have an mp40, just got it. Took it to shoot and the charging handle came off. Is this something I can put back on or is the charging handle permanently attached to the boltand and it sheared off? Does this mean I have to get a new bolt or can I fix it? Thanks

                  Hello friends,
I'm new to the channel. Forgive me not speaking your language well. I live in Brazil.
I am a collector and I have an MP40 BNZ 43 with serial number "1945".
I always liked the serial number because it reports at the end of the war.

Unfortunately, I never shot her because our laws prohibit firing like automatic weapons. I can only collect. An absurdity.

I bought this weapon from a master.

He told me that he was brought from Italy in 1945 by the Brazilian soldiers of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB).

                  I would like help.

I would like to send the photos by email to someone, because I can not post on the site.

I would like you to explain a little about it.

                  thank you.

It can be fixed! The handle is simply peened or brased in place.
