    1940 German Lugar

    Hello Gentlemen,

    I need some help on a German Lugar, I know absolutely nothing about firearms therefore any thoughts would be greatly appriciated.

    A friend of mine is trying to determine the value of the following piece that was left to her by her uncle. This is what she provided me with:
    I have a 1940 German luger that I'd like to sell. My uncle took it off the dead officer in Italy after he almost got shot by him. The only ID marks I see on it are as follows:

    eagle
    42
    88
    7288
    Gersichert
    Can you give me an idea of its value?

    I have requested some pics of the example as well as close ups of the markings. Thank you in advance,

    This appears to be a 42 four digit date variation. Approx. 137000 were manufactured.

    Values on this pistol could range from $450-$2000 depending on its condition.

    The most important factors when determining value are how much of the original finish is still present, if it has all matching serial numbers on its parts, if its been reblued (which will diminish value), if its got rust spots or blood corrosion, if the pistol has its matching numbered magazine.

    Depending on the finish

    75%-80% $450
    80%-85% $675
    85%-90% $925
    90%-95% $1450
    95%-100% $2000

      Oh by the way I need a luger so if it comes up for sale let me know, I'm a federally licensed collector.

          I agree with Kevin.
          Condition of finish, bore, grips, and matching numbers (matching magazine too!) will determine the value of this piece.

          Also if she has the original holster, this will add value as well. Luger holsters in very good condition will sell for $100-$250+! Depending on year, maker, and condition of course!
