    Large 'Tobacco Tin' Cleaning Kit

I bought one of these over the weekend and was just wondering what other peoples views were to them in regard of their use, i had always thought that they were for PzB. 39 anti tank rifles but i have seen many others claim they were used for machine guns also. I really only collect mg things but bought it as it was in good complete codition with nice markings for a fair price. Any thoughts appreciated, Cheers Chris

    Chris,

My opinion these tins were only made for the MG's.Normally there is a wooden chamber cleaner with it in the 8x57 caliber. This makes sense in the way MG's shoots lots of cardridges in a short period with lots of powder residu left in the chamber.

    regards,

    FRANK

Hi Chris, I too have one, marked "1g" on the side. I also had thought they were for the MG, but I am reliably informed they are for the A/T Rifle. I think I showed mine here and Bill Grist said it was A/T.

      Cheers, Ade.

          Adrian,

Yesterday I had a closer look to the reamer and compared it with a 7,92 x 57 and 7,92x94 bullet. Afther closer inspection I don' t think it's for the MG nor for the Pzb. If you can post the pics I can make some.

          Regards,

          FRANK

These kits are for the Pz. B. 39 anti tank rifle. The kit and its contents are shown in the manual for the weapon. From my research Gustav Appel, Spandau, Berlin was the sole producer. I have examples in my data bases marked G. Appel, 64, and cnx. Many, but not all, are also stamped with a stick wing WaA20. None are dated. Most are finished in the typical Appel blue gray paint. A complete example with ALL of the component AND parts is somewhat difficult to locate.

My thoughts only - Lance O. Adams ......

I have one of these "large"(approx. 7"x5") tobacco tin kits that's marked CNX(Gustav Appel?) on the lid and also stamped 19 on the body in fairly large numbers. It appears to be missing one brush. Can someone give me a ballpark price for one of these?
                Thanks in advance.
