    Thought this may be of interest, although not german.
    In the Boer war both sides accused the other of using DumDum bullets.
    Here is a british Lee Metford Bullet picked up on a Boer war battlefield..
    4 slits down the side...

      That is very neat piece of history you have there!

      Bullets like these would cause tremendous damage, as they would flatten and basically explode on impact! The damage to the body would be terrible. I think that is why both sides banned this type of rounds.

        I read an account in the Pacific where the Marines knew the Japanese snipers were using dum-dums, so some of the Marines resorted to using "exploding" aircraft ammo in their carbines. Ouch!
