G33/40
Hi Frank,
I saw one 33/40 of a friend of mine. It is quite impressive, indeed: short, solid wooden stock, reinforcements in its base, etc... Only 50,000 made.
They were issued mainly to the Gebirgjägers and some Fallschirmjägers also used it. These alone are good reasons to take it, in my opinion.
Concerning the prices, well, they are raising fast . Some time ago I saw one being offered at www.brockguns.com. If I´m not mistaken it was mismatched but even so, they were asking something like USD 800.00 !!
I think that they are surpassing the US$1,000.00 right now.
So take it, if you can!! I would say that a K43 is also a good choice, but I´m a suspect to tell this, ´cause I´m a G/K 43 fan, so I will be quiet about it...
Regards,
Douglas.

G 33/40
The G 33/40 's are somewhat rare and getting more scarce. I purchased mine ( a dot '42) a while back and paid $850 for it ( I now consider that to be a bargain!). It has a matching bolt and stock, original cleaning rod and sling. Nowadays, the same rifle could go for $1200+ depending on matching numbers, condition of stock, etc.. Check out sites such as Auction Arms and see what these rifles are currently selling for at auction, as they often show up there.
Be aware that some unscrupulous individuals sometimes renumber mismatched bolts to the rest of the rifle to increase its value. So, if you are interested in purchasing the rifle have it checked out by a knowledgable person who knows his G 33/40s.
Also, these rifles were made for only three years (from 1940-42) and were mostly manufactured in German occupied Czechoslovakia by BRNO (German mfr. code: "dot"). They are about 4 1/2 inches shorter than a standard K98k, have a metal reinforcement band just above the buttplate on the left side and fire the standard 8X57 round.
Good Luck!
Good Luck!

Well,
It depends on how much $ you have to spend!!
If you can only afford one of these guns, I would agree with everyone else, and take the G33/40!
I got mine this past year, and I paid about $1200 for it. It is a "dot 1941" all matching with cleaning rod, sight hood cover, and sling! Condition is about 85%. Since I got it, I have offers of up to $1800+ for it already! Trust me, if you get one, you won't regret it, and the value, won't go down!

About 40,000 of these were made aprox.
I don't know if you know, but here in Europe they are common to get, about 300 to 400 euro or 350 USD a piece.
There is a DOT 1942 listed at www.militariaweb.com under the firearms section (if you can read german). Should go easily away, it is a waterfound, but still in very good cosmolined condition.
G33/40 is not my favorite, it's like a 98K or a Wilhelmientje Carbine or Lee Enfield Jungle Carbine. Too high recoil and way to clumsy to hold, like i'm holding an air rifle.
