Lafette 42 and M.G.Z.40 for review

Would like to hear your comments regarding this late war Lafette 42 and M.G.Z.40. Anyone has Lafette with similar/ identical ersatz leather pads? Thanks in advance.

the lafette is original, however i have doubts on the paintwork being original,some parts look artificially aged. the backrests look to have been repalced too

The MG Z 40 looks ok, harder to find maker, sadly the leveling glass are both missing. Would be tough to find replacements, Regarding the Tripod, original, yes, the paint as mentioned looks too new, the rust does not seem to have the age to it, is the best way I can described it. The pad, yeah who knows when they were replaced, wartime/postwar, hard to say.

By using term Ersatz I mean that pads are made from some sort of artificial leather similar to G43 pouches.

I see that the material is ersatz as similar to the G43 pouches, looks a little thicker, hard to tell from the photos. In any case hard to tell when it was replaced, both of my Laffetten still retain the original leather pads.

At the end of the day, overall I still think it's good piece.

I agree with this regarding the artificially aged post-war paint etc. It looks very similar to ones which are offered with some regularity here in the UK.
