    Dumb ammo question

Hi guys, I bought these two pistols and given that they are not mint, am considering using them for shooting. Any ideas what ammo would be preferable? Thanks!

They may not be “mint” but they are in more than nice collector condition at least finish wise. This notion about collector grade (a dealer marketing fabricated term) and shooter grade (a forum jockey expert fabricated term) are very misused and mean little. That said, reasonable light shooting would not hurt the finish on these guns but holster were, poor or neglected cleaning and over handling will. Any shooting can risk damage especially with the P.38.

I would shoot “white box” Winchester 9mm Luger in the P.38 to be safe and most any .32 cal auto US load you can find. European loads tend to be hotter but would probably be ok in the HsC

Please replace the recoil springs in these guns before shooting them. Also, be aware that WW II P-38 slides are prone to cracking (vertically) near the barrel locking lugs. The slide can split apart under load and ruin a matching gun.
