I have an opportunity to buy this K98. Seller does not know much about it. Seems to be a bring back. The bayonet has to be worth a hundred bucks and the sling seems to be original and worth another 100 bucks. The bolt seem to be not matching but it seems to match itself. Its a BYF 41 looks to be a 28 number. Thanks for any help.

I agree that it has the look of a bring back set. The front band is much later than the rifle, at least mid 1943, but everything else is pretty early. The bayonet seems to be 35 with a 38 dated sheath and the bolt is a pre- war Mauser made example.
The rifle appears to have been cleaned a very long time ago 50s, 60s or 40s? But looks pretty good overall. IMO a bolt MM and assuming the front band is the only other MM part and assuming a decent bore would sell for at least $1000. I think that if you could everything for not more than $800 you would come out ok dollar wise.

You won't be able to get even $100 for that bayonet, and you certainly won't be able to get $1000 for the rifle today. There is still much we don't know about the rifle. Wood matching? Wood marked? Other parts.
Don't overpay. Non-matching bayonets and rifles sit around shows forever. As in plenty available, and not desired by serious collectors. Others might buy them is only cheap.Willi
