Sure didn’t take long for the party to put its symbol on just about every organization after it took power. And the excuse for a bierfest sounds like what some of the collectors do at the SoS. For me a day at the show is followed by a quick meal so I can be back in bed at the hotel by 9:30 or so. Party animal is no longer in my vocabulary!

The gun is not stripped right now, but as I recall it was 38. I'd have to strip it again to be 100% sure. I know Mauser had a numbering scheme they used, and the way they numbered supposedly changed between earlier and later production. I hate to strip it any more than necessary. I don't like to temp fate.

It doesn't have to be stripped down to remove the side plate, but if you are not familiar with how to remove it, don't.

As I recall, press the barrel slightly rearward. Then rotate the disassembly lever clockwise 90 degrees. The side plate lifts up and off the frame.

That is exactly right. Or, you can hold it by the grip, move your fingers to the top of the toggle assembly and squeeze. This will pull the barrel/receiver assembly back to allow the takedown lever to be rotated, releasing the side plate. No further stripping required.
The number in this side plate is 12.
