Scott, Don’t give up just yet. There are some late war tropical items and leather/fabric hybrids that are period German not postwar. Not many, but they do exist. This is an area where more research needs to be done and you really have to look at the items themselves and their provenance.
    Regards, FP

Scott, I have the identical sling except mine has a faint makers code stamp on it. Also, there is photographic evidence of a web sling in a period photo in one of my books but I can't get to it at the moment. I will send you the name of the book when I find it.

        Hi Robbie,

What book do you have, i have just been through mine and none of them mention or show webbing slings for the mp.40.
Here is a photo of some Afrika Korps personel with leather slings on their mp's.
I am not saying they did not exist, just that i have never seen a photo of one.

        Steve.

late in the war many of the leather items swicthed production into fabric items, so i dont think, if it is original, that it has to be a DAK item.

Robbie, from the pics it sure looks like a post war sling, and not German, if they produced a webbing DAK sling, this one doesn't look good. Tim.

I have one example of a late war “tropical” frog that like others was made long after the DAK ceased to exist. It is made from a thinner canvas type fabric which has been folded over to approximate the original thickness of DAK frog webbing material and stitched. It came with a late 1944 dated bayonet with corresponding rust on the frog and the bayonet. There are other very late frogs like the so-called “bread bag” frog made of very thin cheap leather and thin folded over fabric from what looks like German bread bags.

My point being that DAK is one thing. But, while some late war items are similar to earlier production items, others are not and should not be confused with the earlier DAK era artifacts. FP

Tim, I doubt this was for DAK, maybe just late war webbing. I have way tooo many books and pictures for this old mind of mine to search through but one picture does come to mind. You will show your age if you can find a copy of:"Squadron/Signal Publications, Weapons Number Two, published in 1973 and turn to page 13 and look at the soldier wearing the M43 hat with the MP40 and see if he has a web sling. It sure looks like it, but I could be wrong. Even the leather sling loop looks brown in the photo. I could swear I have another photo but can't find it.
