    Walther P-38

    Hello,

I was looking into buying something else and the Walther is the item that I see more trouble then its worth. Can someone tell me what it reasonably sells for in Canada? It has WWII marking (waffen eagle...) 1 extra mag, 1 extra set of hand grips. All is matching, actually right now I'm not sure if the extra mag is matching. Thank you in advance. I bought it 5 years ago from a dealer, so I'm lost as far as how much has the value moved. I don't collect weapons, besides the K98 this is all I own...

well. if the grips are bakelite, and original, the spare set of grips can sell for as much as 120 US, the pistol itself, if all matching, slide, barrel, frame and locking block, then value lies between 500-700 dependign on condition and code, and if the magazine is has the same WaA markings.

    hope that helps.

Value depends on whether it is an early or late war gun and condition. For example an early Walther military contract P.38 with high polish finish and a matching magazine will sell for a lot more. If I'm not mistaken you find these through about the 1941 marked production (ac 41). A more common ac43 or ac44 with "military blue finish" in nice condition will sell in the price range indicated. A late ware ac45 will usually get more than the mid war guns for some reason. There is a lot to know about these with many variations - mainly in finish and markings and it all matters in what these are worth. These were also made by Mauser (byf or svw code) and Spreewerk (cyq or cvq code).

Thank you very much. I will post pics as soon as I can. The hand grips are each different colour, I don't remember which it was, but you have helped me anyway.

          Spanky is correct here.
Prices of P38s can vary widely depending on what you have. I'm not sure of the current prices in Canada? (they are usually lower than the prices in the US though), but here in the States, all matching P38s can range from $425-$2000+!!
This is what makes collecting P38s so interesting. There are so many different variants! Don't quote me on this, but I believe there are at least 54 variants!

Then you got variations of magazines, and don't even get me started on holsters!

          Matt

yea, as joe said, here in canada the market is suddenly very rick with P.38's everywhere, now is not the best tiem to sell, but rather to buy, demand is somewhat low, and there plenty of p.38's to choose from.

                Hello Guys,

Thank you again for the input. I do not collect these, I just bought it because I had an FAC and to me it had historical value. I have an opportunity to buy a SS helmet so this will go one way or another. I could always buy one of these....
                Anyway here are some pics

other side a bit blury. There are 4 stamps there, 2 are almost overlapping. Why stamp it so many times? What does the Cyq mean? How do I know what year the pistol is. Are the grips on it original. The spare ones look post war? I have too many questions. If I was collecting them, I would get books on it but since....

Hi Lubos, "Cyq" is the makers code for “Spreewerk GmbH Berlin - Spandau”. My P38 is by the same maker. The grips on the gun look wartime to me. I cannot give you a production date, but the guys here will help you on that for sure

                        Cheers, Ade.

Thank you Adrian. I've already had a few PMs about the details of the gun.
