    Deer Hunt!

Deer hunting starts next Saturday here in the north woods, and I am proud to say that this year I will be using a WWII German K98 to drop my deer! It is my "shooter", a "dot 1944" model.

I'll let you know the results of the hunt, and post pics of the rifle along with the kill (I hope!)

AHH! to be able to use a rifle to hunt deer. Here in Ohio we can only use shotgun (slug), or large caliper handgun, and of course my favorites bow (I use a crossbow) and muzzleloader.

    Good Luck!

Matt, don't forget to remove the bayonet, and no fair lobbing stick grenades at Bambi!

Yes I think that the deer are a little nervious since I announced that I was bringing out the ol' K98 for the hunt!

I didn't even think about the bayonet! I probably should bring one along to finish it off!
Just kidding. I believe highly in the "one shot, one kill" theory. In fact I think I'm only going to put one round in my Mauser!

Jamie, Here in WI we can hunt with a rifle in only certain areas. (which my area is one of! ) Most of the southeastern part of the state is shotgun only! or handgun. We can't use a crossbow, unless you are handicap, or authorized to. I never bow hunted before, but I would like to try it soon. We also have a Muzzle loader season right after the gun season, and then a late "T" zone hunt for certain areas designated as "T"-zones.

Matt, I highly recommend bow hunting. You learn more about deer habits, movement etc. Also being in full camo vs orange, you will see other wildlife in their natural way. I've had a owl land in a tree next to me and fox under my stand, plus the season is 3 months long. The only reason I use a crossbow is, you zero it in your done, requires no practice like a compound. But the cross bow is heavy and has to remain level in order to keep the arrow nocked. I use my .50 cal 1848 Hawkin replica for primative and regular (shotgun) season. Ohio now allows hunting on Sundays which is great.

I barely missed a large buck this morning in my car, never see them that big when I'm in my stand.

              Deer Hunt

              Hi Matt,

Now that we all know that you won´t use your bayonet (sawback?) during the hunting ( ) we´d like to know if your 98k has any optical device. A 6x long scope would be great, wouldn´t be?

And besides that, DO NOT use the rifle grenades (against the poor Bambis, ok?

              Regards and good hunting!

              Douglas.

sorry no optiocs on this K98, just plain military sights!
I do have a K98 rifle grenade launcher, but unfortunately I don't have any live grenades for it

                Jamie,
Just yesterday I was scouting the area that I plan to hunt, looking for a good spot to put my stand. On the way home, I too almost hit a 10 point buck! Huge S.O.B. !
I just hope I see him again this weekend when I have the K98 with me!

                Matt
