Hey everyone. I just saw this thread about mg34s. I am selling mine right now for $700. It has the Dept. of Treasury approved, 90% milled and heavy duty receiver. The grip appears to be a aluminum and wood replacement. I can't tell if it a period or post war job. I think it is probably a period replacement though because of the DOT stamping.
Merry Christmas.

I know this is an old thread but I just found it. I am considering one of IMA's MG34 or MG42 parts sets or display guns. I wanted to know if anyone has any feedback on these. Unfortunately Franks replies to herrgeezers questions are no longer showing. Are these really made up of period pieces? Also what type of stock were the originals issued with - wood?
John,
What I recommend is when you order the piece by phone(?) get the person to guarantee the pieces as third reich era. Also, see if they can "cherry pick" the parts for a few dollars more. Now that still doesn't guarantee you'll get the best parts as a whole but hopefully it will help. I believe that all originals that I have seen had wood stocks.

A few months ago, I was also about to buy a MG34 from IMA, but those guys could not give me any info on condition or markings, and even could not provide me with any picture . I simply didn't want to pay $$$ for something that I knew absolutely nothing about --> so, I bought MG34 from other dealer.
Here is their email:
Dear Customer,
You have alot of very specific needs, regarding your part set, our part sets are in very good condition, there is alot of the blueing still left on the parts, however keep in mind that they are used parts not brand new, they are all nazi marked, however they are not matching numbers, most of the numbers are on the parts, they have not been scratched off, we can do a special selection for an additional $10.00, that will get you the best of what is available, we stay away from the word excellent, however they are in very good condition, we do not have a photograph. I hope this takes care of your questions.
Hi Junior, the receiver is the main body of the gun. In the USA this has to be replaced on a de-activated or "Dewat" weapon with a dummy receiver, often made from a light alloy.
Has anyone ever bought a MG42 parts kit from IMA?? Since the receiver on an MG42 is the main component (one piece) I wonder if you are just buying the stock, bolt, trigger/breach assemblies, bipod and various other pieces. If any section of the receiver is missing then you cannot weld it together to make a DEKO and therefore it would be useless unless you need spare parts for a firing MG42 (Class 3).
I have just sold my 34. for £500.00 with sling and drum mag.
Regarding markings.............
To find a weapon with matching serial numbers would be very rare, but all the major parts of the weapon should have a serial number on them, and just about every other part should have a WaA# stamp.
Great looking butt......er, sorry...stock.
Is this one of the huge stash that has been found in the Ukrain?
Along with K98.s and Luger parts etc.
Great information but you forgot to tell us something important, who is that other dealer you recommended and how do I contact them. Also do you know if they have 42's also or just 34's?
On the parts kits, is assembly very difficult? Is any special skill or tools required like welding? Do they come with detailed instructions? Do they go together fairly easily?
Steve, what is this stash you are talking about? How do I get info and are they being sold?

I did not recommend you that dealer simply because the MG34 that I bought from him was the last one he got, and IMO, not the best one from those that are available on the net. Here it is: http://www.militaryantiquesmuseum.co...searchfor=1347
Also do you know if they have 42's also or just 34's?
I don't because I was interested in buying only MG34.

If the kit comes with an installed dummy receiver, than no "special skill or tools are required" because all other parts "go together fairly easily".
If your kit comes with no dummy receiver, you will need to buy a receiver separately somewhere else, and then, they might provide you with installation instructions.

Here is a list of web sites that I found when I was looking for MG34. I am sure most of these MGs are sill available:
Make sure they have a Return Policy (in case..)
And if you want a really good set tell them that you need:
1. All parts are WW2 German
2. No rust, corrosion, damage, repairs, etc.
3. Original bluing (at least 85%)
4. Original numbers/mfg marks are not scratched off
5. No any post-war markings added
Good Luck and Happy New Year everyone!
