Markings on a pistol

Hope you can help me with this

The writing sayes : J.P Sauer & Sohn , Suhl
Cal 7.65
And Patent.

It is a very small gun.
Is it german?
Will try to get photos later.

Definitely German, Sauer were a very good gunmaker, the Model 38(H) was an excellent 7.65mm double action self-loader. Beautifully made and a good shooter, what more could one ask?

Sauer 38's are neat pistols , but not terribly well made . To put it better it is a delicate deisgn whose double action is easily broken. I have seen more than a handfull of 38H's that had inoperative double actions due to small detents shearing off and or the little pivot arms for the DA having simply broken. These problems are more pronounced of course on late war peices.
