Exactly what type of 1862 musket are you contemplating? The normal Civil War era British "Enfield" rifle-musket dated 1862 go for $1000-$1200 at shows around here if in semi-decent shape. A really nice one with sound wood and nor much pitting, plus all parts including the ramrod might be upwards of $1500. (This is actually the Pattern 1853 Third Model British rifle-musket, but many of them from the CW are dated 1862 and say TOWER on the lockplate.)
I would suspect the US rifle-musket Model 1861 would have similar pricing.

Greg

I have recently bought several CW-era US rifles and muskets. All were in the $800-$1300 region, and all were complete and in reasonably good condition, with sound, shootable bores (I don't shoot them, though) Among them were an 1861 springfield, an 1863 Springfield, an M1842 Harpers Ferry musket, and two M1816 cone-in-barrel conversions. The European imports, like the Lorenz and the Potsdam are also interesting weapons that were heavily used by both North and South, and they should not be overlooked in a CW collection. i picked up both of these for very reasonable sums-$200 for the Lorenz, which was a steal,as it was complete, and $400 for the Potsdam-a massive musket which is very attractive with lots of brass. I would advise getting several reference books to guide you in your search, so that you will know what you are looking at.

Thanks Greg, Boyt44. The one for sales is around $800. I'm not sure about the model, will check it out soon.
