Help Needed-P.38 Locking Block with No Number

    Hello all,

I just received a WWII German ac44 P.38 that is in excellent condition. It was made by Walther (Code 359), non-import with all matching serial numbers.

The only thing that troubles me about this pistol is...the locking block has no serial number at all. It does have the Waffenampt marked 359 for Walther on one side and another eagle acceptance mark on the other along with a number "3".

My question to everyone is...is this acceptable? Every WWII German P.38 I have encountered had a locking block containing the last three digits of the pistol's serial number. Were there some P.38's made by Walther and others that did not have a serial number stamped onto the locking block? If so, why would this be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mark

Company armorer's replacement. Either broken in service or later by a trophy owner. This problem is quite commom with P08s as the "new" owners did not know to take the pistol out of battery before trying to move the take down bar. Subsequently the new owner would usually apply torque with a screw driver that then broke the take-down lever (lock).

Is it possible for you to post a picture of that "3" which is stamped into the locking block?

On my matching numbers 1943 P38 I have "3" stamped into two places.
