FG42 in Iraq

(hope this is the right place) I had to share this photo that was posted over at gunboards. I was sitting in my chair lamenting that the G-43 was bound for destruction when I came to the realization that there was an FG42 sitting there too! The horror!

The photo is from Iraq, rather recent, and depicts a found weapons cache, soon to be destroyed.

There is no FG42 in the picture.
There is a war time German G43 semiautomatic rifle, an MG3 machine gun (post war 7,62 mm "copy" of the MG 42), a PPSh M41 sub machine gun, an RPD light machine gun and a Lee Enfield rifle (maybe a Rifle no. 1 Mark VI or a Rifle No.4 Mark 1).

The MG3 lacks the AA sight which is usually mounted folded in front of the sight. However the bipod and the muzzle break are clearly post war. Maybe it is a MG3 for turret mount in tanks or maybe it is an earlier MG1 or MG59 version. Maybe it is some license remake (there are many makers...) hence it would explain the lack of the AA sights.

Ahh kool so no german wepons at all there as the mg42 looking gun is more than likely a mg3

My mistake. Thanks for noticing. Strange, I should have recognised the Hakim since it is a license remake of the Swedish semi automatic rifle AG42 "Ljungman".

The weapon the soldier is holding is neither a G43 or a Hakim. It's a Rasheed in caliber 7.62x39. It's also missing it's attached bayonet, but the lug is visable.

Rob - thanks for the link, that explains why I thought the muzzle and "pistol grip" looked a little odd.

the FG42 is the Grandfather of the M-60, so i have heard.
