A friend of mine just bought this pistol from a veteran's family. Looks like pre-war II, but I can't find what maker it is. He paid $150 for it. He wants to also know what it's worth? Ray

It's an Ortgies pistol. What are the proofs? They will determine the value on it. $150 for one in this shape is OK.

omg were did you get that gun? ahahahaha i know their is a lot of those, but i swear up and down that was mine a few years ago! Its a .25 cal pistol, and $150.00 is the max price on one actually!Comment

I found some more information about the Ortgies pistol. The source is the fine book "German Handguns" by Ian Hogg (Greenhill Books, 2001).
"Heinrich Ortgies was a German who lived in Liége (Belgium) for several years and there he designed an automatic pistol which he patented in 1918. Right after the war he returned to Germany and start the production of his weapon in Erfurt but died shorthly after. His company was bought by the Deutsche Werke AG that continued to run the plant with considerable success.
At the time they only produce the 7,65mm (.32 ACP) Model, although Herr Ortgies had left designs for 6,35 and .380 ACP models. Under the Deutsche Werke all three models were put into production by 1922.
It has been estimated - basing the estimation upon known serial numbers - that some 250,000 Otgies pistols were made before production ended in 1929. The Ortgies pistols are well-made weapons of exceptionally neat and tidy appearance and were widely exported in the 20s and 30s notably to USA. Another number of these saw action as sidearms during WWII.

the clip should say which caliber, yeah it has import marks. Mine didn't have em, it was actually pulled off a German in WWII and brought back. Mind would jam a lot, but spring was also worn out a little. most unaccurate little suckers though, the first two shots always seemed good but after that it just didnt' shoot right?.... weird i know.Comment
