Can anyone let me know the names or websites of any UK or European dealers specialising in live German pistols?
    Thanks,
    EricS

Be careful Eric, you know the laws about live firearms are very severe in Ireland, Transporting one from the UK to Ireland could land you in serious trouble!

Thanks but due to legal cases last year we can now apply for licences

Look at the number of pistol ranges up and running in Ireland

Regulations are still strict but with a little hard work and preparation it is possible.

Once I have identified the pistol I want to buy (UK or EU dealers = least hassle for importing), I apply to the Gardai for the licence. As I said there are strict regulations but it is possible.

Thats great news for those in Ireland! Will you be allowed to keep them at your home?

        Keep us posted!

Yes - at the local club there are already some pistol shooters - I managed to get a magazine off on a CZ pistol. All those currently licensed keep their guns at home. Needless to say they have to be kept very securely but this is still a massive step in the right direction.

Eric, perhaps it might be easier to import a pistol from the US?

I guess you'll be subjected to import tax and higher shipping costs from the US but with the exchange rate between the dollar and Euro and the greater availability of weapons in the US, it might work out cheaper and easier on paperwork.

I doubt you would have much joy with dealers in the UK, I guess there aren't too many about any more, they could only work with export deals (or Government agencies) because of the firearm ban in the UK.

Danny - you need to brush-up on Irish/British history and geography

Thanks Strider but I believe that importing from the US is full of red tape and could take months to achieve. Has anyone else here from the EU had any experience with importing from the US?

Oh and Danny - its only the North of Ireland that is still part of the UK, but thanks for the sentiment anyway!

At the moment you need to apply for an export permit to take ANY firearm out of the US. This is a lengthy and expensive process and there is no assurance that you'll be successful. Friends in the trade have told me that lots of US manufacturers are refusing export orders because of the hassle, even for things like McMillan stocks and M16 magazines. There are still a few dealers with pistols in the UK but they have very little stock as the market is so limited.

I'd check out dealers in Holland or Belgium, when I travel there everyone seems very obliging but whether that would apply to export sales I can't tell. You'd probably have to make the purchase in person but one of the main points of the EU is the free passage of trade between countries. It's worth a try anyway.

                  Best of luck. Peter

Does the US export permit apply to private individuals I wonder? I know internally the law is different for personal trades of firearms as opposed to a sale by a gun dealer. Could a person in America sell their own weapon to an individual in another country?

I've no idea as to whether this would be covered by Federal Law or by an individual states jurisdiction. I presume there would be a difference between a sale conducted in person within a State and a sale conducted at a distance. I'm sure different rules apply for Inter-State transactions and almost certainly also for international ones too.

If one bought a firearm in a face to face transaction the onus would be on the purchaser and prospective exporter to secure the correct documentation for exporting the item but I've no idea how you would go about it. I'm sure Grosvenor Square has someone who could give advice.

                      In ignorance. Peter

                        Hello Lee:
I think I've studied the British history enough to know that the countries dominace has been and always will be.The government treat there subjects wrong and its getting worse. At least I can say we had the opportunity to whip the crap out of them several times when they tried crap on us.We saved their butts in 2 World Wars and what did the older Brits have to say about our men in there country, they are over payed and over sexed. Why did our bombers have to fly daylight missions and you guys got to twiddle at night flights over Germany.I don't like the British government and never will.I don't care that my last name is the same as Camilla.England is a dominating nation and will not be satisfied until they take away everything the people have. Its relly ashame the people can't own a starter pistol.Very-very sad situation. But really I shoud not have told you something you already know or you would not have moved from your home land to our great nation. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
