I did it! I ordered a P38.

After a few weeks of deliberation, I just ordered a AC44 P38. Hopefully in a week or so I'll have it in my hand.

Have I entered a down spiraling, all consuming gun collecting addicton?...

It is a very nice and beatiful gun. I also own a ac44 ("f" block) - I never fogot the day that I finally put my hand on it.

Meawhile just keep on reading the Matt´s great article about this gun!! Don´t you think to get a holster too??

Douglas is right!

You made the first correct move by buying a P38 (AC44). Now you need to compliment it by getting a nice holster for it, (and spare mag if you don't have one already!)
You can get a nice minty 1944 dated break-away holster (smooth or pebble grain) for a reasonable price. 1944 P38 holsters are the most numerous, so you can afford to be picky about quality!

By the time I pay the local gun dealer his transfer fee I'll have about $500 in it. I have a chance to buy a 1944 holster for $100 or the holster and clip for $150.

The P38 site is great, the web master Orv Reichert was very helpful in my decision making.

If the holster is in good shape, then $100 is a good price!
$50 for a spare mag is a bit high I think, unless it is minty!
You can usually find good mags with "eagle 359" for around $35-$40. But if he's giving you a good deal on the holster, you might just want to get them both at the same time, and save the trouble?

Sorry Mat I didn't see your PS, I don't know much about the holster yet, I am not buying it from the same fellow I purchased the gun from. The holster is from Tom Heller of Heller Arms who has some p38s including a AC45 that he quoted me for about the same price.

I'm using mine as a shooter, so I have been informed that it's best to have the springs replaced, which I can get from Sarco.
(Good people to deal with, I sold them a mint G43 a few years ago, they took care of packaging and shipping etc).

Not being a gun collector this has been a real learning experience.
