    Mauser question

OK i have been meaning to ask this for a long time, I have a K98, All matching Serials etc. Is stamped "42" then "1939" on Breech, However on the Stock is a faint Mauser Logo. Since this is a 100% Not messed with, why is there a mauser logo there.. this Rifle isnt mint as it has some pitting on the bolt, i had it checked by a gunsmith and was ok.. It shoots live like a dream!. Last 2 digits are **16

    See pic of stock

Looks like the Mauser banner of some Chinese contract K98ks..

Same banner will be found in "Backbone of the Wermacht" by Richard D Law on page 308..

seem i have one of two things

A pre war Mauser built for the chinese freikorps or a allie capture from N. Africa that was sent to he chinese, since it has the numbered bolt and is turned down, i beleive it is the first one. Anyone got any more info?

Your Mauser Banner looks exactly like the picture in my book..

Well i post some text from the book.. Could be interesting..

During the period 1937-1938 an unknown number of K98ks, originally intended for the Wehrmacht and possibly rejects, were diverted to fulfill Chinese orders. These rifles, already stamped and proofed for the Wehrmacht, had the manufacturer's code, year of manufacture and all other marks, including the model designation 'Mod.98', ground off, and a distinctive, five-digit serial number preceded by a single letter stamped on. (On some of these rifles the code, date stamp and model designation can still be faintly seen). Some of these K98ks also have the Chinese sunburst emblem and a Mauser Banner stamped onto the side of the stock.

Hmm Interesting but heres the thing

the Mod.98 is still there, all waffanampts proofs are present, everything matches, no sunburst and a 4 digit serial with no letters but we have an established connection with the chinese exports.
