    Russian Rifle

I have a person that wants to sell me a Russian made rifle and I do not know much about these. It has 1937 dated on the top and Russian text on the side of the bolt assembaly. Does anybody know of a good link that I could do some research. I might place some photos on the thread for some help, but I would like to take a shot at it myself at first so I know if it is worth troubleing everyone. Any help would be great.

    Thanks,
    Jason

It Czech not Russian. A Czech BRNO VZ-24. Basically the Germans couldn't build rifles after WWI and so moved the Mauser factory to Czechloslovakia. Produced from 1925-1942.

Jason, I think that the rifle is a Czech export model to China. The year marked receiver and ā€œPā€ block serial are the same as one I selected from a large pile of Mausers direct from China and later traded off. The overall condition is about the same and I got into it very reasonably to give to my oldest son to learn disassembly techniques. My point being that I probably would not place a high dollar value on this particular rifle especially if my suspicions are correct. FP

I have bought at least 10 of these rifles from Big Five Sporting Goods for about $115.00, built custom rifles out of them, great recievers.

Here's another site with some background info. Confirms FP's comment aout the P series from the 1937 run going to China.
