    Erfurt 1917 KAR 98az Re-issued carbine

I would think that every collector no mater what they collect, has a Item that they wish could speak..Well here is one of mine... A kar 98az carbine which has been issued to three different military regimes in one country (Germany).. The carbine was manf. in 1917 at the Erfurt Arsenal for WW1, then in 1920 Inventoried and issued for the 100,000 man Reichheer of the Weimar Era.. Then in the 30s with the rise of the Nazis' issued to a police or military unit and proofed with the Eagle and Swastika..IF it could only tell it's history... Enjoy BILL

                      Giving life to inanimate objects!!

                      Bill,
You and I have often contemplated this mystery. This is a beautiful subject for our imagination. It does almost talk. It fills in a lot more blanks than most of the items in our collections, but leaves much tantalizingly just beyond our grasp. Wonderful rifle. Many thanks for sharing.

                            Very nice indeed.

as far as i knwo these rifles were also issued to HJ and wehrmacht troops late in teh war, when there was a shortage of rifles.

ive seens everal documentary's depecting batles late ine the war and you will easily be able to see these rifles in use.

The Weimar/nazi era rebuilt kar98a's are fairly common . I have had a bunch of them over the years...for myself i don't collect them. Last one I had was a 1909/1920 Amberg, gorgeous weimar/nazi era refurb..but not my type.
On the muzz cover it is made by Durkopp...one of the more prolific makers of kar98a muzz covers. I have a couple made by R.Stock& Co for example.
