When the 98K was used by the norwegians there should be an stamp KNM on the rifle ..but lets hear the opinions from the specialists here ...

Closer photo's of the stock and it's inspection markings will enable a positive identification. Is the stock serial numbered to the rifle in the channel, WaA26 marked? I have never seen a 40 dated Borsigwalde rifle with correct wood in anything other than a flat buttplate. Mauser Borsigwalde transitioned to the cupped buttplate later than the other manufactures of the 98k rifle.

I agree with Jim....This rifle would've had the sheet metal buttplate when it left the factory...Also would've been minus the front sight protector (unless upgraded later)....Also solid front band is incorrect...Would've had the milled H- band configuration....Of course these could've been later upgrades by the Germans but seeing the top of the receiver where it's notched, I doubt it....Bodes
