    Mp40 questions

Hello all, I have the chance to buy a dewat mp40, and was wondering what a fair market value would be for such a thing?

It is all matching numbers, and is fully operational.

Thanks so much, will post pics soon if needed.

Not cheap.. a five-digit number. But I would start your question with "how much" it was offered to you.

And hey, Dan, who needs pictures posted, you or we?

HI Dan, really tough to judge. US prices are definitely differnt than Canadian, as I'm sure you know. I have bought and sold dewat MP40s in the last year, all "cock and click" examples, ranging from $1250 to $2300 CDN. I know Collector's Guild sells them for over $2000USD, but I think on average you may find one for the $1500 range.

I should have bought the whole lot that I saw only 8 or so years ago for $700 CDN. Just like everything else in the hobby, prices are always heading up. Take care and good luck

        Thanks again

For an early dewat with matching numbers, I think you'd be hard pressed to find one for under $2000 nowadays.

Is there anylaws against owning a dewat?

No licence required to own a dewat in Canada. Check the Canadian Firearms Centre website for any further clarification. You need to be sure as the new owner that the deactivation is irreversable, as it is your responsibility. Post pics when you get her!

Yes they are legal to own. Deac pistols as well from what I understand. I would agree with Roy as far as the price,if it was full auto then you can triple or perhaps quadruple that estimate

Hi Dan, the price sounds reasonable, but the one you saw sell on e-stand was £1800.00 I don't know how that figures in Canadian $'s? Tim.

Sorry, Dan, I haven't read your post carefully. I thought it is a live MP40, not dewat. All matching dewat in good condition (with 95% of original bluing) would be around 3-4 K in the US.
P.S. 1,800 UK Pounds = 4,163 Canadian Dollars = 3,291 US Dollars. But in UK they have different prices for 'dewats' and cannot sell to the US.
I bought my MP40 (not matching but with a sling and in good condition) for $2K three years ago (in the US).
