    Your Ideas Please!!

    Learned compatriots--
This is not a firearm, but I muchly value the knowledge of the men contributing to this forum. Thus, I'll broach the subject here. If the Moderators see the need to move to a different forum, I will be the first to understand.
    Here goes---

Found in my Father-in-Law's effects, he was a WWII vet, and spent some time in the Antwerp area. This object is obviously a blade, but first it was something else. It is very irregular in shape and only the thickness seems to be consistant at about 1/4 of an inch. maybe 3/8ths. It is 9 1/2 inches long, and just over an inch wide at it's widest point. There is a small brass tag apparantly soldered to the handle which has the inscription :

    Skagerrak
    31. 5. 16

My research on Google shows that the Battle of Jutland was fought primarily on the date on the tag. From the arrangement of the date, I would say that it could be Germanic in origin.

I would love to hear what you gents think of this. I have my ideas, but will hold them in reserve to see what you think.
Following photos are not too great, but perhaps you can see enough.

    TIA for your responses--

    Ronnie
