    Unit Marked luger identification

    Hi,

for all the Luger experts, i have a Luger which is marked in two different places

on the backstrap just above the lanyard ring it is stamped:

    R.S.10.

and on the front just below the trigger guard is stamped:

    J.R.21.10.

it would be nice to know if anyone knew what unit it originally belonged to

    thanks

I am no expert by any means. I think you need to post pics of
markings. Certain letters have different meaning if the font is in script
    or block.

My WAG is R.S.10. is either Regimental Staff on an Infantry Regiment OR
a Reserve Medical Company. Again based on font styles

    J.R.21.10. might be Infantry Regiment 21 weapon# 10.

I will bow to more knowledgeable collectors.

I agree with William both in the importance of seeing the markings and the likely meaning. These are not standard or regulation markings in any case. The date on the pistol is also relevant.
Also important as mentioned is the script style of the letters and the character sizes if they differ from each other last but not least is how the characters are separated such as periods, spaces or slashes

The marking above the lanyard ring is almost certainly, what is known as, a pre 1922 Reichswehr provisional marking. The marking on the grip strap is Infantry Regiment 21, staff pistol # 10. Is it a double date marked Luger?
