I've been trying to find some original 8mm ammo for a gewehr 98 display. Anyone have any leads or information on where I might find some?

Pretty hard to find 100+ years on. I have 1 round in my collection. Collectible ammo guys at gun shows may have some. Keep searching the net. Good luck. -

In my experience WWI German 8mm and 9mm has always been hard to find, especially boxed. The pre war ammo for the 8mm used in the G88 and the .43 cal for the G71 and 71/84 is more easy to find but not cheap by any means.Comment

Lots of good information about WWI-era 7.92 German service ammo in this book, including lots of photos of really nice boxed examples, sleeves of boxes, bandoleers . . . stuff that in my collecting experience is virtually unheard of here in the US.Comment

Yes a lot of great photos and information in that book. I was going to qualify my comment made before the post on the book by saying not easily found in the US.
For whatever reasons, probably lack of demand, there was not a large scale import of surplus WWI German firearms and ammunition into the US during the 20s or later. Pacific Arms and some others offered some Lugers and broomhandles,
generally commercial variations or reworked military pieces and some
Surplus accessories, but in the scale of things these quantities were peanuts.Comment

Don't have to tell me twice. I searched for a long time for 9mm for a luger display. After lots of time, and lots of $$$, I found this box of 1916 ammo, still sealed, pull tab still in place, and shrink wrapped for preservation.
