    M1 Garand Handguard Question

Is their any significance to the decal attached to this upper hand guard? It looks damn near original to this piece.

Not really, and that is the rear hand guard. The upper hand guard slides over the front of the barrel.

Really... Then why isn't the upper hand guard called the front hand guard.

Yes I know. Front hand guard and rear hand guard. MY QUESTION WASN’T ABOUT PROPER NOMENCLATURE. So never mind. Seems like know one here knows about the decal.

You were the one that called it an upper hand guard, and just using your nomenclature to better help you understand.

No, the paper sticker is not original to the hand guard. The military part number for the hand guard would have been on the original packing.

              From M1 Rifle TM 9-1005-222-12

              1005-556-4245 GUARD, HAND, GUN: FRONT
              1005-731-2556 GUARD, HAND, GUN: REAR

There was also a different rear hand guard for the M1D rifle which used the barrel mounted scope mount to retain the hand guard rather than the spring clip of the standard M1 Rifle.
