Ammo Can Resto during Lockdown

I have time so whilst "Lockdown" or "Stay at Home" is in place I Grabbed a cheepy Jugo Green can I had and did a strip and repaint for my shelf.

Can is a KMF 1934, with a part struck Weimar eagle. I left the inside jugo green as it is a shelf filler and to avoid any ideas that I am some sort of closet forger.

Chipped it up and rubbed the outside down a bit then scrubbed it with some pastels that I ground down. Fun to do and filled some hours so the lady that rules the roost was happy I was out of her (now very long) hair.

The colours were quite effective even if it is just my garden!

Nice looking Tim I see the can has 3 rivets towards the hinge. Does that mean it is a former E kasten?

Amazing job Tim! It looks perfect! You have used idea of "hinterhalt tarnung" used on late war tanks, SPG's, etc. Please show markings. With 1934 date it is the earliest example. I see it has separated leather covers on carrying handle. I have seen handles with one piece of leather, running through all lenght of handle. Maybe it was done only by selected makers.
Good eye Carles. I think that three rivets can also be found on steel Patronenkasten.

Carles, I really have no idea what its past use was as I bought it in that Pale green from Jugo use. It is a steel can and not an alloy one. I will put it next to my original and post a pic but I am sure the original has the 3 rivets but with a slightly differing catch/lever arm.

Question in General. I have another Jugo green steel can dated 1936 (Large Stamped) and the logo IDEAL in a diamond shape. Is this German?

Tim, Please post also picture with details showing the way the closing handle is attached/riveted to the box. Ideal box can be of Polish origin. If it is a problem for You I can buy it, since I collect Polish militaria. Please post also picture of Ideal markings. Good to know that no original paint has been harmed during process of cleaning

Well a few more pics of the family grouping as it were, rivets, latches, and markings. As can be seen the cans are both steel and identical in dimension and form LESS closing latch.

As can be seen the brown is a little off but my scruffing pastel is the same shade, I need a darker one.

That closing system looks non-German to me. Won't that box be Czech? or Polish as Janusz suggested?

Closure latch on the 34 dated can is German as its used on other styles of box as well. Link above. Janusz has an alloy box in that post dated 35. Also used on flack mag and the MG13 mag box I think.

Janusz was referring to the other Jugo Green box I have 1936 marked ideal which I have now realised that under the paint it is probably JDEAL in a diamond.

Ref your comment about the leather covers on the handle, don't forget that the Jugo,s had reprocessed this can and most likely did the leather loops. No idea what it would have had originally.
I have seen the full covers on one of your posts on Ammo Cans.

Whoa....no need to bash your head on a wall carles . Lets face it, their are at least 2 MORE styles of catch on ammo boxes of that size so I think we are all allowed to miss a trick occasionally

As I recall the pretty common pressed steel latch and the very much less common open U shaped metal one on the side. (The one you usually see on equipment boxes etc)

After that we have all of the opposing nationalities that used a variant of that box style and all flavours of catch that the germans used as well

Little wonder we are all slightly mad around the edges.
