    If you are referring to the serial number on the barrel, the barrel was not serial numbered until after the pistol was finished, where the other parts were serial numbered before finish. The exact same die may not have been used when the barrel was serial numbered.

      I think it is a fair deal. Gun shows consistent finish wear as it was not molested.
      A good cleaning usually improves the looks a little bit.
      Be careful: Lugers can be highly addictive.

        I would want to know how the bore cleans up before putting $1800 into it.

          While the bore could be an issue, fact is that more and more of these matching pieces are not being fired anymore.
          This is not pristine, but they are not making new ones.

            Whether they are being fired or not, the condition of the bore as well as the finish influences the price. Otherwise they would all be worth the same.

            Whether they are being made any more or not doesn't influence the value as it is what it is.
