WW2 Aircraft AN-M3 .50 Cal. What aircraft is it off please?

    Hi All,

I own a .50 Cal Aircraft MG and I was wondering if anyone knows what type of A/C it’s off please?

The front aluminium shroud is quite distinctive but I’ve not been able to find one identical. B25 nose is similar but not the same. I’ve looked for many many hours!

It is an ex museum piece (from a U.K crash) but the history is lost on this one.

Any help would be very gratefully received.

Thanks for the help. It would be my dream to be from a B-17. I’ll have a look at more pics to see if I can find the same shroud.

        Mg

I would look to remote or mechanical firing as wing or turret gun as there is no trigger assembly for a gunner

Thanks and yes certainly solenoid controlled. Most A/C had at least some remote firing though so haven’t been able to narrow it down off that.

Thank you but unfortunately that one is different. Different mount underneath and different shroud where the barrel meets receiver.

That chrome shroud looks strange almost like its the part that surrounded the muzzle as it went through wing. Im thinking P51. That chrome colored piece has notches in it for screws like for mounting on wing struts for barrel support

Yeah, I would do searches for other options. Check ball turret, fighter wing, or nose mounts; perhaps a military modeler might have the answer.

I’ve pretty much searched for most applications in any aircraft I can think of but not always been able to find a picture of the specific parts. Hopefully I’ll chance upon a picture at some point. Thanks all for the help.
