Vietnam Captured Jungle .45

This is one of the smaller groupings that is bittersweet. This belong to a dear friend of mine who recently passed away and the family wanted me to have it. He relayed the story to me about how he captured this weapon in January 1970. He received an award for the engagement he was involved in. He explained the entire story and then gave me photographs of him carrying this for the duration of his tour. Very well-made peace.

I’ve seen these referred to as both a jungle made gun and North Vietnamese manufactured piece.

These Jungle weapons are an interesting subject matter. It does look fairly well made, is the safety functional?

On the one I have the safety is not functional. It appears the jungle gunsmith gave up without getting it to work.

They are made of sheet metal pieces brazed together, and not something you would want to shoot service ammo in. The one I have is split from the front of the receiver back to the triggerguard where it was brazed together. Maybe it was shot once.

The reason I ask is because your pistol actually has the double sided spring assembly (I forget the name) that sits between the slide stop and safety. "Forgotten Weapons" on youtube reviewed one of these jungle 1911's... interestingly the person who made that one didn't even bother to make that piece... they just screwed a stationary safety lever on to look the part.... without rambling on, thanks for posting this one, very cool to see one of the better quality jungle 1911's.

Wonderful keepsake, but I don't think I'd have carried it. It may have fired just fine or it may have blown up in hand.
