I couldn't tell them anything they don't already know. Their job is to sell it.

It surprises me that an internationally famous auction house like Morphy would even offer an item without first consulting forum "experts." Save your money though, it isn't supposed to actually go on the block until 1 or 2 October, when it's supposed to fetch in the neighborhood of 30,000 GBP.

The discussion is about as wide as it is long.

Both the links are from 2012. The same gun sold for $230,000 in 2018 at Rock Island auctions.

Today's date is 10 Feb. 2020. That's the reason it is on the newspapers website masthead.

The Daily Mail article is dated 23 August 2012.

                          Quote from the article:
The gold-plated handgun handed over by Hermann Goering as he surrendered to allies resurfaces for sale at £30,000
Senior SS officer gave it to Lieutenant Jerome Shapiro as he fled from Germany in the final days of the Third Reich

                            Strange.

Next I expect that the "actual" sword surrendered by the Japs aboard the USS Missouri will turn up in the estate of some Seaman 1/C who spirited it away and left another in its place. At any rate, at least this pistol is a known commodity in the firearms community and regardless of the validity of the story surrounding it, is a very valuable example of a wartime PPK.

If an firearms engraver brought the first handgun to the Reich Marshall, I think he/she would had been shot for making fun of Goering

The Walther PPK was not at question. It was the very worn Mauser with crude engraving that the discussion centered on.
