    NSFK Dagger SMF

I acquired this dagger from a fellow member this summer.
    It's a nice looking piece...

As you can see there is a small piece of leather missing from the rear of the scabbard.

Does anyone know what the 96 represents next to the DLV
        stamp on the scabbard?

Is the handle painted? and is the pommel round or oval?

The 96 with bird is a waffenamt mark.

SMF grips should have blue leather, the only company who painted their grips on these types of daggers were Helbig which has a crackle effect to imitate leather, looks like yours has lost its leather and someone has painted it blue.

                Russ.

                  Russ.

                  I concur with Russ.
The grip should be leather covered with the same material as the scabbard. Looks to me that the grip leather was removed and grip painted.

Here is a SMF with same waffenamt on Witty's site for comparison:

Thank you for the information gentleman... what ever happened to
the leather, the grip was neatly painted. A lot can happen over 80 years.
