    #1 Polizei Bayonet for review/opinions

This lovely looking Clamshell has come on the market and I have been after one for a while.

It all looks fine I'm just wondering about the metal scabbard instead of the usual leather one, would this be a cost cutting exercise by the purchaser, or perhaps a manufacturing trait of the maker?

I welcome your opinions and advice.

This bayonet is very interesting but I believe there are issues with it. The painted steel scabbard examples were produced by only a few manufacturers with Klaas not being one. They appear in later produced bayonets with short officer length blades, not full-sized Weimar examples that have been cut-down.

The obverse rivits look oxidized and a bit odd, do you have pics of the reverse rivets? Klaas Polizei bayonets are not common, I have to check my files but I'm not convinced this clamshell is what it purports to be.

I wanted to add that the hilt is an Alcoso product. Other than Alcoso, I've only seen Alcoso hilts on Clemen & Jung marked bayonets.

Just checked my files, I've only observed Klaas marked Polizei bayonets with aluminum hilts that were produced during the 3R, not those made during the Weimar zeit. Of the examples I have in my files, I've observed just three clamshells. All were 3R produced showing the wide-winged grip emblem, as I would expect to see. Johnson sold one in 2010 for $1900, Weitze had one sometime thereafter & Ratisbon's just sold one in May of this year for roughly $2000.

Thanks so much for the information, it's greatly appreciated.

Here are a few more images, I hope they can assist you.

I have a feeling I may go for the Feldjager example after reading your comments on this Gendarm.

Strange material of rivets, detetoriated but eagle and pommel looks in nice shape, the frog looks like cracked, maybe by removing or the piece was added later. How long is the blade 25cm? b.r.Andy
