    Strange Grip....

    Hi Guys,

Slowly getting back into collecting after a long time away.

I have just bought a very nice WKC Heer dagger from an online dealer but I am unsure about the grip.
There is a seam/join along each side and it sounds hollow if I tap it.

This did not show up in the sellers photos so I was quite concerned when I unwrapped it.

I have been told that it is celluloid over a plaster core and some of the plaster has probably crumbled.
Has anyone seen or heard of this?

    Any help gratefully received....

    Steve.

Unfortunately I am unable to post attachments at the moment, I don't know why.....

    Well....
I saw the discussion on facebook. And Paul and Nathan Hogle from lakesidetrader confirmed is was original. You really don't need to know more.

And yes, celluloid over a plaster core is common for late war handles.

        Thanks for your reply MrMiler....

The comments from Paul and Nathan were very welcome but there were so many negative comments on there as well I still wasn't convinced.

        I should have known better, shouldn't I.......

The late celluloid over plaster grips with the unfinished seams down the sides look really crude and fool many into believing them to be fake, testament to the poor materials and finishing as the war progressed. Nothing wrong with them, they just don't compare to the early quality. Interesting in their own right... imo

No, I really want to know more. That's what drives me to collect.
