Perplex DRGM Mercator style folding knife

I picked up this folding knife marked Perplex DRGM as well as Solingen and was wondering what era this would be specific to. I cannot find any specifics on this make online. Thanks in advance!

      Hi Sam,
A nice knife you have there.
The ‘PERPLEX’ trademark was first registered in 1909 by Ernst Mandewirth of Solingen.
In their 1922 catalogue they offered a folding knife with lockable blade (DRGM 112534 and DRGM 687765).
To confuse things, the same ‘PERPLEX’ mark was registered by Wilhelm Kober & Co, of Thuringen in 1922 a large metalworker who specialised in hair clippers.

However it seems very likely that your knife was made by Mandewirth as its marked ‘SOLINGEN’. The ‘GERMANY’ mark suggests to me a knife made interwar and for possibly for export.

        Cooky,

Thank you for your in depth response. I had read these went back all the way to the Franco-Prussian times so it would be hard to date exactly. Do you by chance have scans of the old advertisements? Thank you for your time.

          Hi Sam,
the information about the E. Mandewirth catalogue is mentioned in the book 'German Knife & Sword Makers' 1850-1945 by J.A.Carter; revised edition by J.Walter & H.Ritter.

However there was no picture of the knives to accompany the information.
