    Interesting SA Dagger

I picked up this SA at show today and would like some opinions on it.
The dagger overall is in good condition, its an Anton Wingen Jr. with
the lower cross guard marked No - Nordsee. The ball on the finial has
a rather nasty dent in it.

The thing I found interesting was the emblem on the back of the grip...

Would this Lion be Flemish / Dutch? I've never seen this before.

More than likely this is a Czech lion. Good looking dagger.

IMO fittings between lower crossguard and scabbard looks strange for early SA dagger.

I apologize for the size of these pictures, even as an association member
on WAF I have to use a third party photo hosting site. For some reason I can't post my photos on WAF. Up until recently there was never a photo sizing issue.

The lion emblem on the reverse side of the grip my indeed be Belgium,
how, when and why it got there are questions I'd like to try and answer.
But for now I think the picture size is more a distraction, so I will re post
this dagger when I get the photo size sorted out.

          Thank you for your replies.

That is a very nice dagger in very nice condition. To me it looks like the lion was added as it was applied on top of some dents on the grip that go under it and come out next to it. Just an observation.
            Regards,
            Michael H.

I agree with Michael H. When I first looked at this piece I thought of the Löwenbraü Brewery in Munich, whose logo is nearly identical to this lion applique (this tells you perhaps more about me than about this dagger)! The lower reverse crossguard indicates that this SA Standard Service Dagger was produced by the Winger firm for SA-Gruppe Nordsee, but that Group was located far from Munich, so perhaps this SA Mann was another fan of Löwenbraü's product?! Just some thoughts...

Br. James, It's close to the Lowenbrau lion but not exact. Anyway as I said it's a very, very nice dagger

I agree once again, Michael: It is a very nice dagger. "The Lion Rampant," as this figure is known in heraldry, has been used by many countries, regions, cities and etc. for hundreds of years. In the hope of finding a matching Lion Rampant for the one added to your dagger grip, I did a search on the web, but that only added further uncertainty to my idea!
