    Unreal Sword!!!

I thought some of you blade guys who search the web would appreciate this. Found on e-bay for next to nothing. Its a hand tooled silver hilted rapier. Well marked all over the hand forged blade. Is anybody a sword expert out there?

    Thanks,
    Cliff

It would have to be a really good one with the hand forged blade.

Fourth picture in post # 2 shows what I think is a 19/20th century Fábrica de Toledo trademark.

From the images my sense of the blade is that it's most probably roll forged. With the pre-Industrial Age swords you can hold them at arms length and see the irregularities and other characteristics of hand forged blades. Which is not to say that roll forged sword blades are always perfect because there is a human factor there also. FP

I dont think it's roll forged. It is wavy when held at arms length. I dont know if the pics I took show if very well. It reminds me of the blade on a Civil War Confederate swod I once owned. Not like the many Union sabers I have had that were roll forged.
An interesting thing I found was a picture of the original King Phlippe II of Spain sword that looks just like this sword. This sword says Philip V which lived a century later. I'm not trying to say this is a kings sword but perhaps a later copy of a kings sword. It is curious how it reads Philip V and not II like the sword it is imitating.

Thanks for comments and shairing knowledge.

I'll try to get better pics of blade during the day tomorrow. When you look down at arms length, it is seriously hand hammered....

Irrespective of the outcome it’s still a nice looking sword that would present well in the right kind of setting. Richie B in post # 9 making an interesting observation that could deserve some attention - that being that one of the markings does look like Fábrica Nacional de Toledo which I think was the new name of the factory circa 1910. My understanding being that the same type of sword or a minor variant might still be manufactured by Fábrica Nacional de Toledo. FP

On page 24 of catalog FN Toledo there is copy of sword Felipe II. The catalog has already a M1941 so i assume its of late 40ies. Important for dating is the SB gear (tooth circle) and sword stamp TM, which is mostly post WW2, 784 is a serial number of limited production of copies. b.r.Andy
Updated stamp could be found on Cetme post 1957 bayonets.
