The dagger is original but the grip was painted for some reason...

Nice anodized scabbard, not so common.

A nice, early piece from the SS Distribution Center in Berlin. Too bad the grip was painted. A lot of those early ebony or other hardwood grips did not fare well over time and we see them today with cracks and chips. If someone repaired the grip, as you mention, then the repainting was probably an effort to disguise the repair work.

Sometimes it's better to leave the piece as-is!

Remove the paint if it’s an original ss grip

              Klaas dagger

              Hi Drew,

I sent you a PM concerning this dagger but you might not have noticed so I try it this way.

I used to own a very similar Klaas dagger but it was stolen years ago. The thing is that the grip was very characteristic as the name of the officer was engraved in the bottom of the hilt on the reverse side. Any chance you would have some higher resolution pictures of the grip? At the moment I see several similarities but I'm not 100% sure yet. Alternatively, could you tell me where you found the pictures?

              Thanks in advance!!
              Steven
