Hi guys I have been offered this .
The scabbard has lost its finish bar the rings to scabbard that hold hanger rings.
most finish lost to handle ,fair bit of finish to imperial crown.
Felt washer is missing.
There is heavy pitting in places to the blade.
Is this what is called maidens hair Damascus …
Will the grip be Bone or ivory ????.
This is a totally new area for me .The guy wants $750 is that to high considering the pitting to the blade .What would a fair price be ….Your help will be fantastic.

This is an original Eickhorn product. The grip is ivory and the blade is "maiden hair" damascus as collectors call it. This is an iron based model produced between 1914 and 1918 when traditional brass was discontinued due to its strategic value in the war effort. The iron base metal didn't hold the gold gilt well so what you see on this dagger in rather normal for these models. It looks all original and not messed with from the photos. It is an excellent price for what it is. Why can't I ever find great deals like this?

Great to see an old Eikhorn makers mark .I wonder why they dropped the double squirell ????? any ideas.

Pete,
After 1918 Germany was basically bankrupt for reasons beyond the scope of this reply. Eickhorn emerged from these tumultuous times in the late 1920s with a redesigned logo featuring a solitary critter. It changed in various forms until the company folded I think in the 1970s? Someone knows the answer. Anyway, there are many references showing the evolution of their logo. However, the squirrel remained the key design element in its various forms.
