Gravity knife opinions

There is a local auction ending on Thursday, and I wanted your opinions on this gravity knife. I am not around them enough to know. I hope I took good enough pictures for you to tell, and I realize in hand is the best way. Thanks for any help you may give.

Gravity knife is original.

However, besides being sharpened (which is very common), the blade tip has been reshaped.

Thank you for the reply. What would this be worth? It is up to $250 now. Were these spring assisted? This one you have to throw downward to get it to come out and lock and push the blade back in or push it down to get it to go back in.

Not spring assisted just gravity both in and out. The springs only operate the blade lock and tension on the spike.

These earlier non-takedowns often got gummed up a bit in the housing and there is no great way to clean them. Sometimes some careful work by someone familiar with the innards can get them working well again.


Based on what I can see I would think this knife would be in the $300-$400 range. It could bring more as some dealers get crazy prices for these now. I would see $450 as top retail for this one given blade condition.

Blade tip is way too over sharpened for me. I would save my $ and pay a little more for a better example. FYI flipping the thumb lock over and “throwing” the blade downward is a sure way to break the spring. Gently roll the lock forward with your right thumb and use your left index finger to let it gently roll over. Then hold the blade point down and let it fall out is a lot less stressful on the back spring. You may need to gently push the lock forward a little to completely release the blade. To retract the blade, point blade up, press gently on the thumb lock and blade should retract. It may need some gentle urging. There are plenty of busted spring gravity knives out there. Don’t add to them.
