Picked up this Ersatz Trench Knife, the tail end of last year. The paint has been polished away from the sheath and handle. From the bit of research I've done, I think its original, the maker is Deutsche Maschinenfabrik AG. an obscure maker, founded 1819 unfortunately no production record. Two questions were these trench knifes issued to German soldiers in WW2 ? or only WW1. Would there be any reason for a soldier to remove the paint? anyone have further information on the maker ?
