Any one seen this ss stamp before on a K98 bayonet?
Is it period or just fake to bump up the price of the bayonet?
    Please help.

Jack, If not this one I've seen similar, and as I think you already suspect it's fake. What could be helpful is the maker and some more information about the bayonet for folks like AndyB who track them for future reference. FP

Jack, Thanks for the photos , it looks like a German Army/Wehrmacht contract bayonet that may be a rework. It should have a date and serial number/letter block on it that will help in determining an approximate time frame for when it was made. That said, the "SS" marking still does not appear to be period. Regards, FP

Jack, It's a little blurry but that may be an "f" with serial numbers starting at "no letter" or with a letter at the end. The date should be on the spine/back of the blade with two numbers being the year. Regards, Fred

The bayonet is F.W.Holler 1938 in j range, from dbase i could say the range should be with brown plastic grips, so wooden here should be serialed with assembly numbers, the press button could be too replaced, from pommel area blueing i would say the handle was refinished and reblued note the pitting under blueing on pommel, so the additional SS Wa1 is probably wrongly there same as on the rifle, wrong place too, it was probably done to both parts probably for higher value or addressing the piece to W_SS.b.r.Andy

In agreement with Andy, 1938 should be with the Bakelite grips. FP
