    Old German Knife

    Hi!

    I am Hugo from Spain.

I was in an antique store in Joplin (USA) and bought this Knife. In the blade says "Solingen Gambill Germany" and according to the seller its dated from WWI or WWII.

I have been doing some research in the internet, but I can not find anything.

I have found similar knifes but the handle is always different (the handle in this one is metallic).

Do you think it was used by the German army?

Here a link to some photos:

    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi Hugo,

    Welcome to WAF!

Regarding your knife, if the blade says "Germany" on it, it was probably made post-1945.

Best way to get an idea of an items identify is to post pictures of it. Your link doesn't work so it's difficult to make a guess as to what type of knife you have.

          Hi Hugo,

Not sure exactly what you have there. It doesn't appear to be standard German WWII issue to me though. I'm sure someone here will have a more informative answer for you.

Not military. Manufacture date - probably 1950/60s.

Thank you both for your replies, seems I got inaccurate info from the seller!

I've never known that to happen before.

                    Hi, Billy !

Even German WWI trench knives were marked with GERMANY, before shipped to Britain, or, to the States !

I´ve read, there was a huge stock of Wehrmacht pith helmets, shipped to the states in 1945, all of them were stamped with GERMANY also.

IMHO the marking GERMANY was an indicator for German WWI, also, WWII war booty.

Btw., I was also told, after the Treaty of Versailles 1919, emerged the first
                    "Made in Germany" markings.
Without this markings there was no international copyright valid.

Nonetheless the knife, asked for in this thread, IMO, isn´t WWII era made.

                    Best regards,
                    R.
