from my Dad at the SOS

Hello Everybody.
My dad got some daggers from the SOS show. He said that I could have them one day. I can't wait!

I learned a little bit because I've never seen these before. Well, I've seen Army daggers before but this one is different.

What about this one?This one does not have a swaz. My dad says it's a forestry dagger. I've never seen one before, but my dad says I have at Mr. Greenwade's house. I must've been playing with the dog or checking out all the cool guitars upstairs.

This dagger is real LONG and has a lot of designs on both sides. There's deer running on one side and a dog chasing a fox or coyote.

Is this a real WWII dagger? I mean with no swaz or EK?

Erik, this basic design was actually in service prior to the Third Reich and continued through the period. With the white grips this would have been for a Chief Ranger or Forest Administration Official. Because there were no exact specifications for these daggers, different manufacturers had blades and scabbards of different styles and sizes. Your's comes very close to matching a photo of one made by Alcoso in Johnson's Volume 1. Now all you have to do is find a portepee and you're in business.

On the other hand, that's really a nice looking early, silvered army dagger. I really like the patina on the fittings.

Looks like your dad did very well on the Army dagger. I didn't see it at the show, but knew he had a deal working. Both pieces are nice additions to your collection!

The Forestry cutlass your Father bought is a real beautey!! The Ivory (or simulated Ivory) grip makes the piece a Senior Forestry Faenger.
