    navy dagger question

    Years ago I was told to watch out for german daggers where the wire wrap on the grip does not tuck under the pommel top or the cross guard ferrule at the base. That that was was a sign of spanish copies. I recently saw a navy dagger where the wire went into a visible hole on the grip right below the the pommel but it looks like original yet i passed on it. any thoughts.

    Genuine examples of exposed grip wire holes can be seen with Holler and the 8 segment Alcoso grips,

      I actually think this was a Holler. Are visible holes an indication of Repro then on navy daggers other than Holler and alcoso?

        Not to my knowledge, repro navy grips are usually made from white solid plastic with more bulbous segments than the genuine white celluloid over wood ones.

          Some genuine makers show indeed visible holes. Got A luftwaffe Höller myself with such a grip.
