Tighten handle on 1889 Prussian Degen..?

have acquired an Imperial German Prussian Model 1889 Officer's Degen, however the guard is a bit loose along with the blade into the handle. Is there a way to tighten this..?

top of pommel screws on and off, but think twice before tighting. Could cause more harm than good. One reason it may be loose is that many of these swords when produced had a leather finger loop or hook between the grip and the quillon. Which over time has rotted or torn away.

Yes, can be replaced. I don't know if you can find one from a dealer (doubtful ) but if you have a local shoe repair shop near by,they may be able to help. If you're handy, try cutting one out of an old belt.
